BIG CHANGES START WITH ME: CASEY ERUM

As we explore what personal growth means to individuals, we connected with some women who inspire us as a brand. Take a look at how Casey Erum chooses to focus on bigger and brighter thing ahead.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I recently joined the 30s club and became a doggy momma to an American Cocker Spaniel named Cooper- I'm obsessed! I work for my family business, which is a formwork and scaffolding company- quite manly, I know haha, but eating good food, and exploring new and beautiful places are two of my most favourite things in life!

What is personal growth to you, and how do you see it happening for yourself?

Personal growth for me is all about being excited about the endless possibilities life has to offer. It happens in moments between fear and bravery because if you’re scared to make that choice, it’ll probably be worth it.

Turning 30 was a big milestone for me. I never really got birthday blues until it was days before my 30th birthday - I was officially saying goodbye to my 20s & entering a whole new decade in my life! Back then, I created this image in my head of who I was going to be at 30, but alas, the day has come and I’m far from what I pictured.

After my mini meltdown, I shook it off and decided to just be excited for the next big things that’ll happen in my life.  I dedicate this decade to (more) self love, growth & discovery. It’s the decade for not selling myself short and not allowing myself to settle for anything less than what I deserve. My 30s is for my personal growth!

What daily rituals do you do to see change happen in your life?

Every day, I try to work on every aspect of my life as much as I can. I exercise at least 30 minutes a day for physical growth. For my mental and spiritual growth, I journal, meditate and pray daily.

What changes have you made that you're most proud of?

During the lockdown, I discovered a new hobby that I've grown to love & enjoy (a lot) and that's cooking and baking for myself & people I love. I even started a cheesecake business over the quarantine- Baked by Casey! Other than this, I also learned how to play tennis again after so long! It's all about ~balance~ haha! Aside from these, one of the biggest leaps I did was when I decided to join my dad's company. It was out of my comfort zone and line of "expertise," but every day is an opportunity for me to learn something new and grow.

How do you think being kinder to yourself can lead to being kinder to mother nature?

Kindness trickles down from your thoughts to your actions because when you're kinder to yourself, it translates to every aspect in your life, even to Mother Nature.

How can sustainable brands like NANU help you in the process of being kinder to yourself and mother nature?

There's a saying, "you are what you eat," but in this case, "you are what you buy." I admit, I may not always make a conscious effort in buying sustainable and eco-friendly brands, but when I do, I can't help but feel good because I don't only do myself a favor, but also, Mother Nature. As consumers, we have to remind ourselves that we have the power to choose & buy from brands like NANU that not only put thought, love & kindness into crafting their products, but also prioritize respecting Mother Earth.
