As we celebrate growth and friendship, we connected with a few individuals who call each other their "BFF." See how they conquered the challenges that came their way.

Can you tell us a little bit about your friendship?

Rebecca: We’re cousins and first best friends born 4 days apart! We have gone through life’s ups and downs together—especially sharing the same set of friends and the same school. We make sure to encourage one another to become the best versions of ourselves, like accountability partners. Our bond is something to hold onto for a lifetime.

Bella: Born four days apart, Rebecca and I have been inseparable. Not only is she my cousin, but she was my first best friend. We've experienced almost everything together. Our first birthdays, our first crushes and heartbreaks, getting into the same college and being in the same course with the same set of friends. I know that she's got my back and I've got hers--that's how it is, and that's how it'll always be!

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve experienced together?

Rebecca: The biggest challenge we’ve experienced was our first ‘rough patch’ in the beginning of college. It was not easy—all the more having misunderstandings and bad communication get in the way. Eventually, we conquered that and came out even stronger. I’m grateful that we turned this trial into something good. It taught us so much about ourselves and one another.

Bella: It's crazy because we used to do everything together and have the same interests. But as you get older, you begin to quickly realize and discover yourself more and grow apart in your own passions and hobbies. Through time spent apart, we realized that though we have our differences, we are still one and the same--and Reb and I will always find our way back to where we last left off.

How have you kept your bond strong through the years?

Rebecca: By being a source of encouragement and being authentic with one another. I think this in itself goes a long way in making our bond a ‘safe haven’ for us. It makes room for growth, comfort, acceptance, and even laughter. All the more with the foundation of our shared faith and values, we have nothing really to worry about if trials or changes might come our way.

Bella: We are cousins, we have no choice! Just kidding.
Regardless, Rebecca and I are simply the best of friends. We just get each other and know each other so well that everything comes naturally. We both don't have sisters so I always believed that this happened for a reason because God knew we'd have each other.

What was the biggest change you’ve seen in each other?

Rebecca: Setting boundaries for ourselves growing up.

Bella: Growth and mindset! I've absolutely witnessed Rebecca blossom over the years--in mind, body, and spirituality--and it makes me so proud. She shines in everything she does.

How were you able to help each other get through the change?

Rebecca: By lovingly understanding and accepting that we are still our own persons at the end of the day—who have differences in the way we work mentally, physically, and emotionally. Respecting one another’s boundaries is crucial to create a healthy bond that would last for a lifetime. But despite these differences, we continue to be each other’s ‘cheerleaders’ in anything we do.

Bella: Apart from offering my help whenever it was needed, I always support her in anything she sets her mind to. Even though she may not have realized it, I was with her every step of the way. I was her number one fan even if it was as simple as deciding for herself or posting an Instagram photo. Haha!

How do you bring out the best in each other?

Rebecca: Being each other’s ‘cheerleaders’ in everything! But this too pretty much involves being lovingly honest and open to constructive advice—which we give because we simply desire the best for each other.

Bella: By simply being present and encouraging each other with the dreams and goals that are yet to be accomplished. It's nice to know that there is someone there for you, someone who believes in you and your capabilities, especially in times when you excessively worry and doubt yourself.

What are you excited about for one another?

Rebecca: Our dreams to come true.

Bella: I want to remind her that everything is possible--and most of all, I'm just so excited to see those dreams come to fruition. I can't wait to witness her joy as she glows from the inside out when she gets to where she wishes to be in life.
