Big Changes Start With Me: Ina Roa
The journey towards sustainability isn't an easy one, but with each commitment to mindful action, it becomes a more attainable reality.
In this series of interviews, we shed light on how young Filipinos are contributing to bring this collective dream of ours to life.
It's an honor to have Ina Roa with us for this.
How are you celebrating Earth Day?
By remembering to not take Mother Earth for granted. To keep in mind that I can do small things everyday to give back like conserving resources such as energy, water and reducing waste. I’ll also celebrate by just taking it all in and being grateful for all that nature has given us.
What's the biggest change you've made for the environment?
I started becoming more conscious of my purchases. I opt to support brands that are eco-friendly and sustainable. I try not to buy as much fast fashion anymore and go for local, or even vintage thrift finds. I also do pledges for tree planting that can help restore our forests, and try my best not to use plastic and instead go for reusable materials.
What are your main resources of information about the realities of climate change?
I keep up to date with news and articles from CNN and some educational sites like Vox. I also try my best to read books like The Upcycle by William Mcdonough and How to Avoid a Climate Disaster by Bill Gates. I also like watching nature documentaries like David Attenborough’s A Life on Our Planet.
Can you give at least 3 actionable steps that we can take in our daily lives to secure a better future?
Reduce, reuse, recycle & upcycle. Try to be more conscious of the carbon footprint you will leave behind.
Support brands that are eco-friendly and sustainable. Although they might be a bit pricier, they do this to ensure that they go through proper processes that are not harmful to nature.
Be more aware and involved. Stay informed about climate change and join causes that can help mitigate its effects.
What does your ideal green future look like?
My ideal green future is where everyone is more conscious of how each and every action they do can affect our environment. One day, I would love to see the world have more eco-friendly sustainable villages and also use more electric vehicles to lessen fuel consumption.
