As we explore what personal growth means to individuals, we connected with some women who inspire us as a brand. Anna Hegenscheidt asks herself a few questions everyday to ensure a healthy change in her life.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi! I'm Anna. I'm a business management student at DLSU and actually just finished my thesis which discusses how circular economy moderates the relationship between fast fashion brands and consumer behavior. This made me particularly excited to be working with a company that has sustainability and circularity at the forefront of their business model and vision. I've always been a pretty curious person and so I love to go out and explore. I am the type of person who would never say no to an adventure. I also love food – I love to make it, eat it, and share it. Sometimes, I must admit, that all it takes to turn around a bad day is a good meal!
What is personal growth to you, and how do you see it happening for yourself?
I would personally describe it as the ability for someone to foster the things they've learned from their experiences and environment. Growth is a goal that everyone has that sees no end– it occurs everyday. It's about making your happiness a priority, seeing silver linings in hardship, and by being patient, not lazy. I think that when you're less afraid of what society has to say and just truly enjoy what you're doing with confidence (even if you're not good at it), learning will be much easier and a joy. The greatest hindrance to growth is fear, so just set yourself free and make it a priority to enjoy what you do – get creative!
What daily rituals do you do to see change happen in your life?
I like to ask myself the same questions every day!
How do I feel?
What am I grateful for?
How can I be a better person today?
I think understanding your feelings and recognizing where they are rooted helps a lot to know what are the things you need to keep or change in your life. Gratitude always helps. In good times or bad times, you will always find something to be grateful for. This is a great way to gain perspective and stay motivated. When we ask ourselves "how can we be better people", it makes me think about the kind of people I would like to see in the world. The first person who you can influence to change is yourself!
What changes have you made that you're most proud of?
I'm proud of how I can give myself chances now. I used to think that I had to be great at everything I did even just to start; and, that mindset paralyzed me. I didn't do things that intrigued me because I simply didn't feel like I was good enough. I have learned to let those insecurities go and just have fun with whatever it is that I do! I give myself room to learn and progress. After all, mistakes can be fun too!
How do you think being kinder to yourself can lead to being kinder to mother nature?
I believe that people can be selective with their kindness, but kindness towards your own self is genuine. When you choose kindness to be a part of you every day, you will impart kindness to everything that surrounds you.
